The Miami-Dade Beacon Council honored Kaufman Rossin and The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade with the Business Climate and Policy award for their collaboration on the Equal Pay Miami-Dade campaign.

Kaufman Rossin partnered with The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade to launch a countywide awareness and marketing campaign promoting equal pay throughout Miami-Dade County. Kaufman Rossin’s Marketing Principal, Janet Altman, and The Women’s Fund’s Executive Director, Kathy Andersen, were instrumental in the creation, development and distribution of the campaign.

The slogan, “Daddy, why do you pay women less?” was seen on billboards and public transportation hubs around the county. “We needed to break through with a message beyond the numbers that show that progress toward equal pay is stalled, to question the underlying biases and mindsets that prevent progress in gender and pay equity,” expressed Andersen.

Local employers were invited to join the movement by pledging to reduce the gender pay gap through advocacy and action. “The gender pay gap is one of the biggest issues faced by women today, and I’m proud to be working to move the needle in the right direction here in our city,” said Altman.

The award was presented at the 2019 Beacon Awards ceremony on June 26, 2019, at the InterContinental Miami Hotel. As the official economic development organization for Miami-Dade County, the Beacon Council facilitates business growth and expansion locally, nationally and internationally. The annual awards, which started in 2002, celebrate “companies, organizations and individuals driving growth and prosperity for Miami-Dade.”

More than 54 nominations were received this year in seven different categories, which align with The Miami-Dade Beacon Council’s One Community One Goal’s pillars. Award categories include: Business Climate and Policy; Economic Development Marketing; Education and Workforce Development; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Physical Infrastructure & Resiliency; Target Industries; and Leadership.

The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade launched the equal pay campaign in collaboration with Kaufman Rossin to “make sure every woman in Miami-Dade County is paid fairly — women doing the same work as men should be paid equally.” The non-profit organization creates change for women and girls through advocacy, investment, and impact. It invests in key collaborative initiatives that generate sustainable impact in four pillars: economic mobility, leadership, health and well-being, and freedom from violence.
