Kaufman Rossin in the Community: Supporting Women-Led Businesses
Read
Florida has 564,400 businesses owned by women, the fourth largest number in the nation, and Miami ranks fourth among metro areas, with 242,600 women-owned firms. Kaufman Rossin’s support for The Commonwealth Institute demonstrates our commitment to this vital engine of growth and employment in our community.
What is The Commonwealth Institute, and what is its objective?
The Commonwealth Institute (TCI) is a vibrant nonprofit organization, founded to help women-led businesses become and stay successful. Women-led businesses in all industries, from start-ups to multi-million dollar public and private enterprises, participate and benefit from TCI’s programs.
What is Kaufman Rossin’s role with the organization?
The Commonwealth Institute is one of Kaufman Rossin’s strongest links to the women business leaders of South Florida. The firm’s support to TCI has demonstrated our commitment to these leaders.
- We use our skills to give back to the organization. In 2015, for the first year we are the sponsor of TCI’s Top Women-Led Businesses survey, and will be moderating the panel discussion at their luncheon on April 2.
- We gain insight and connect with members. We participate in one of the TCI Forums, a small group of women business leaders who meet regularly as an outside board of advisors for each one of us.
- We host and facilitate learning events. TCI’s monthly Business Books and Coffee events are held in our Miami and Ft. Lauderdale offices. Meredith Tucker and Janet Altman are facilitators for these meetings.
- We learn leadership and develop our people. Kaufman Rossin sent two of our high potential women professionals, Janet Chase and Lori Bucci, to their leadership series Strategies for Success. “This program was outstanding,” Lori said. “We learned excellent managerial techniques and developed long-term relationships with highly motivated successful women business leaders in our community. I would highly recommend the program to any women interested in developing their business leadership skills.”
Why did you decide to get involved in this organization?
“My personal mission is to help women and girls have equal rights, access, and opportunity,” said Janet. “This organization helps women leaders help each other, and serves a key role in our community.”
What is your advice for others who are thinking about getting involved in the community?
Kaufman Rossin supports the organizations our team members commit to with personal passion. If your personal desire is to improve education, help foster children, or care for animals, find (or start!) an organization that can really make a difference. It’s a wonderful way to help the community, and connect with people you might never have known.
