Assessment Strategy and Assessment Briefings

 

You will undertake two pieces of assessment: one group assessment and one individual essay.

Assignment 1 – is a group project and is based on 4 case studies explored in the module. Your group must select 1 case study from below to construct 15-minute group presentation/exhibition/discussion.

  1. Mining in the Congo
  2. Big Tech and Fake News
  3. The National Trust
  4. Climate Change denialism

Guidance

  • Identify and investigate knowledge management realities and challenges in practice.
  • Explore the different forms of knowledge and the implications for management practice
  • Consider the ethics of knowledge and how this shapes organisational behaviour, including the interaction between dominant and alienated/alternative knowledge forms
  • Critically evaluate knowledge as a form of capital and especially how it can be exploited for social and commercial advantage

Due date: 05/05/2021 (12:00 noon). A copy of your presentation to be submitted via Turnitin. This element of assessment carries 30% of the overall marks for the module. 

Assignment 2: The second assessment is an individual traditional essay using examples from your group work.  The more you contribute to the group work and think about the activity- then the more you will be able to discuss in the individual element.

You are required select one theme and associated concepts to write a critical reflective essay (2000 words) that demonstrates the connection between theory and practice.

  1. Select one of the key themes
  • The problematic nature of knowledge Ethics of Knowledge
  • Forms of knowledge
  • Knowledge as capital
  1. Use the key concepts to analyse the case study
  2. Generate insights about knowledge, knowledge management and organisational practice.
  3. Reflect on your experience of working collectively with your group to produce knowledge

The essay should directly connect your practical experience with theories and concepts of KM.  The word limit is 2000 +/- 10%.  Quotations, images, illustrations may be included if required and do not count towards total word-count.  Website screenshots and blog illustrations can be included if required as appendices.

The criterion reference grid for this assignment will be made available on BlackBoard.

 

Due date: 26/05/2021 (12:00 noon) to be submitted via Turnitin. This element of assessment carries 70% of the overall marks for the module. 

 

Tutor Support

We will use lecture, seminar and workshop time (as posted in handbook schedule) to address the issues emerging during this exercise. There will be formal opportunities to meet afforded by the study unit timetable, but groups will also need to meet formally and informally.  At times you may need to have a full group meeting (a group in-toto) but at other times you may have subgroups tasked with specific work who will meet in part, outside of these scheduled slots.
