What was the most helpful information or tool you learned about or had an opportunity to apply from last
week’s assignment?

Review the information on attached form about creating sentences. Complete the assignment on the form Tues 11/09
W10:A3 Read Chapter 12. You will find that we have actually covered a lot of the material, just in different ways
than directly from the chapter. A review, but with particular focus from your perspective if there is
content you feel you should better understand, will be helpful.
Read chapter 13 on resumes. Be sure you understand all of the dynamics involved! Pay particular
attention to the TYPES of resumes.
I am not assigning a document directly relating to the chapter content. However, if you do not read it
thoroughly, you will not benefit from the assignment, which is a quiz grade. See below

W10:A4 Very important: Log into the US Government Bureau of Labor Statistics and review as many
sections as you like to gain a strong, informed perspective of how vast this topic is, and how many details
are assessed and categorized for public use. Take a significant amount of time to explore this website –
get lost in it! It has a LOT to offer! https://www.bls.gov/
Be sure to also look through the Occupational Outlook Handbook to determine how your future
prospects might look! You can find this under the PUBLICATIONS tab on the bls.gov site.

W10:A5 Using the internet, find a job you might be interested in. Think FUTURE, not where you might be at this
point. You want to prepare (mentally as well as with skill sets) for future opportunities. Don’t
underestimate yourself – aim high, thinking about your future career path goals!

Wk10:Q1
Review your job posting (from W10:A4) carefully so that you can be successful in customizing your own
resume and cover letter.
(Quiz grade)
o Include the link to the job posting you decided to use at the bottom of your resume. o Use Microsoft Word and find an appropriate template for the resume, (not for the cover letter. That
should be created and formatted entirely by you)
o Create your resume – be prepared to write many drafts – get it right! o Write a professional, customized cover letter as well. VERY important! o The resume should be 1-2 pages o The cover letter should only be one page Include a separate justification section (but attach as one submission document)
o This should be as many pages as you like. *The more you justify your decisions and thought process in developing the resume and cover letter, the higher your grade will be!
o I should particularly see why you chose the type of resume you did, and why. To find templates: Open a new Word document > file > New > type in resume

Discuss what you discovered about yourself in the job search / resume and cover letter writing process.
Were elements of the coursework helpful to you in terms of having more confidence; did you learn about
templates and government resources that you were not previously aware of, etc. Did this assignment help
build more confidence for you? Were you previously aware of the OOH? Did you find it helpful?

***NOTE ABOUT YOUR RESUMES
I am not grading, editing, correcting, or otherwise giving you advice on your resume! That is a role left to career
services (contact them – they can be very helpful!)
What I am looking for is your thought process; whether you were sloppy or careful; formatted professionally, etc. All
those things that you should be thinking about for a resume and cover letter. However, if your resume and cover letter
are not well done or I do not see effort, that will lower your grade. Take your time and do it right – and spend time
reflecting and writing your justification!
Have a good week! ~ Dr. Collins
