Assignment Overview:

The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the viability of many businesses. Businesses that are surviving the economic crisis are implementing drastic revisions of business strategy and operation. But how does business undertake these revisions? This assessment presumes there are better ways of re-strategizing than others.

Before a business should develop a business plan, business managers and leaders should learn to create an essential statement of purpose. Based on a purpose statement, managers and leaders can develop a successful purpose-driven business strategy to drive organisational and cultural change, and that ultimately leads to improved performance measured by social, environmental and economic indicators. This assessment requires you to create a purpose strategy using a Business Purpose Canvas. You should use the same organisation from Assessments 1 & 2.

Why use a Business Purpose Canvas?

Well, you may have heard of a new way to do a business plan, called a ‘Business Model Canvas’. They are a cool way to achieve an overview of your business planning. A Business purpose canvas takes a unique approach to this, focusing instead on the purpose of a business.

The elements of the Business Purpose Canvas you will use are:

  1. Purpose Statement (using approach from Assessment 1)
  2. Map of values that are shared by the individuals in the business, the business and stakeholders
  3. Undertake value chain SDG mapping (using approach from Assessment 2)
  4. Identify social and environmental trends that the business can positively influence
  5. Outline broad KPIs chosen to measure success
  6. Develop meaningful purpose with employees through shared purpose
  7. Identify how the business can partner with and influence its supply chains through its purpose

GENERAL POINTS

The in-class teaching is designed to provide information and activities to help you develop skills to understand value chain mapping of the SDGs, but you will need to work on your assignment in your own time. No workshop time has been allocated to assignment work.

Do not exceed the time limit. Marking will stop at 5 minutes and 30 seconds and you won’t receive marks for work beyond this.

You need a minimum of 5 references for this assignment. Some suggestions are the company webpage, an industry leader’s webpage, the UN webpage, industry sources and academic sources on your topic and chosen sector. You can add in-text style references to the slides and add a reference list at the end. Use APA7 or Harvard referencing style.

Please use an appropriate design and style for your slides and presentation. For your slides, make sure they are legible, and use colour and imagery to support your work. When recording, please make sure your audio quality is good, and that your lighting and background are professional.

The due date for this assignment is above. If, for some reason you are unable to submit on time, please speak with the Course Convenor ASAP to arrange a solution.
