The aim of this assessment is to demonstrate your skills in statistical analysis. The questions are structured by techniques taught in lectures and lab classes. Please type your answers directly under each question in this word document, including SPSS output only where requested . Part 1: ANOVA
Using the data in Table 1 below, answer the following questions:
Q1) The salaries and max education level achieved of 24 people was recorded. Enter the data into SPSS carry out the appropriate analysis (and subsequent post hoc tests) to investigate the effect of education level on salaries. Report the findings in the correct statistical format and in words. [15marks]
Q2) The first 4 individuals at each education level were men (shaded grey) and the second 4 people at each education level were women. Enter this extra information into SPSS & carry out the appropriate analysis (with plots) to investigate the effect of education level AND gender on salaries.
Please include the plot in your answer. You do not need to include other output from SPSS in your answers. [20 marks]

Part 2: Regression
A research study has been conducted to investigate performance anxiety in basketball players. The researchers measured the players’ levels of performance anxiety, the number of years of experience of playing basketball, and their desire for perfection. All of these assessments resulted in scores measured on at least the interval scale. The researchers also recorded whether the participants had previously experienced mental health issues.
Use the dataset “Sports med2.sav”. For the following, carry out the appropriate statistical analysis.
- a) Conduct a linear regression analysis to address the following question: to what extent is performance anxiety explained by previous mental health issues, years experience playing basketball and desire for perfection? Write a short section on the results, include the relevant statistics and give a summarising interpretation. [20 marks]
- b) State any 5 of the assumptions of this regression model and indicate whether or not each of these assumptions has been violated. Include the relevant output which you feel is necessary to support your claims. [10 marks]
