READING ASSIGNMENT

READING ASSIGNMENT

Worth 50 POINTS

Overview of Assignment

Find an environmental science article related to one of the chapter you have studied so far. You can use the University of West Alabama (UWA) Library’s Database (http://library.uwa.edu/ ) to find an article. Once you find and read the article you will need to TYPE a 2-page summary of the article (The first page should be a summary of the article and the last page should answer all of questions listed in the detailed instructions). A rubric of how you will be graded on this assignment is provided.

Details of the Assignment

Find, read, understand, and review a journal article in the field of environmental sciences and provide a 2 page summary (TYPED, 1.5 line spacing, 12 point font, 1 inch margins). Note, don’t try to take up half the page with your name or do any other absurd thing to avoid work!

The article must come from a journal in the UWA library database or available through an on-line database (full text only!) such as Scientific American, Science, Discover, National Geographic, etc. You must include at the top of the page the following information and the complete and correct citation for the article you are reviewing. For example:

Your Name

EN 100 Semester and Year – Reading Assignment 1 – Date of assignment

Article Citation: Author(s) name, year of publication, article title, publishers, volume number, page number(s)

Example of Article Citation Format from a non-web source: Romm, J., and Frank, A. 2013. HYBRID VEHICLES GAIN TRACTION. Scientific American. Vol. 29 pp. 29-35.

Example of Article Citation Format from a Website: Simmons, B. (2015, January 9). The tale of two Flaccos. Retrieved from http://grantland.com/the-triangle/the-tale-of-two-flaccos/

Your review should be in paragraph form for the first page and typed using correct grammar and punctuation. The first page should be a summary of the article (Remember not to plagiarize!). In the last page you should be sure to answer the following questions in a NON-paragraph form {BE DETAILED WITH YOUR ANSWERS, but do not go over two pages for this section (so your assignment may be 3 pages maximum)—include the questions with your answers}:

1. Was the article easy to read?

2. Why did you choose this article?

3. How does the article relate to chapter we covered in class?

4. What chapter and part within the chapter did this article relate to?

5. Did the article provide useful information about the environmental science?

6. Does the author indicate areas that need further research?

7. What other thoughts do you have concerning the article (you need to develop at least two other thoughts)?

8. Would you recommend the article to somebody interested in environmental sciences? If so, why?

Submit your article through the link on Blackboard before the due date and time to receive credit.
